Goalkeeper Nathan Trott could leave West Ham in summer

Pondering the future: Nathan Trott has no plans to remain in Denmark (File photograph)

Nathan Trott could well be on the move again this summer.

The Bermudian goalkeeper, 25, has been on loan at Danish Superliga club since August 2022, but his future remains uncertain as he has no plans to stay in Denmark after the season ends.

A graduate of the West Ham academy, Trott has found it hard to break through at first-team level with the hugely experienced pair of France international Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski, who recently signed a one-year contract extension, blocking his route to the first team and it is increasingly unlikely that he will force his way into David Moyes’s side.

Trott, who has represented England at under-21 level, could well be looking for a new club soon, with his West Ham contract close to expiring and he will be a free agent from July 1 if no contract is offered by the East London side.

For now, Trott is concentrating on his few remaining months in Denmark with Vejle, who are second from bottom with just three wins out of 17 matches, and is concentrating on helping them to avoid relegation.

“I think this season will be my last at Vejle,’’ Trott told Tipsbladet, a weekly Danish sports magazine.

“My focus is just to keep them up right now, and of course you never know what the future holds. But I think I’m ready for the next step now.

“I haven’t really thought about what will happen this summer yet. Of course, my loan agreement expires this summer, and my contract with West Ham also expires, but there is an option in my contract which gives West Ham the opportunity to extend the contract by two years.”
