Lindo’s Tigers recovered from their first loss of the season in the Bermuda Netball Association Senior League by recording a huge 54-18 win against Docksiders at Bernard Park on Tuesday.

Jahkenya Trott, who has taken over the captaincy from her injured twin sister Jahtuere, scored 32 goals for Tigers to win best attacker. Candace Paynter was second best with 14 points, while MVP Zariah Amory and Donnisha Gardner had four goals each. Diara Benjamin and Demiqua Daniels shared the defensive accolade.

Amory, 24, showed her versatility by playing three positions in one match. A younger sister to the Trott twins, Amory played goal attack in the first two quarters and goal defence in the third quarter before moving to goal keeper in the last phase of the game.

“This win was very important for us,’’ Amory said. “We made sure that our goals were up, we tried to get as much goals as we can, which I think we did.

“Coming out in attack we did struggle bringing the ball down, so we did adjust when it came to the third quarter.”

Amory also shared her thoughts on her team’s 46-24 defeat to defending champions Phoenix Heat, their only loss so far this season.

“The only thing that really beat us from the Phoenix game is the mentality, we gave them the game in the first quarter,’’ she said.

“If we had kept our heads, we would have come out successful but sometimes things don't work out like that. We’re definitely coming back for Phoenix.”

Despite her team suffering a fifth loss of the season, a result which left them still winless, Docksiders player-coach Charlotte Evans was cheerful.

“No wins this season but we've had a lot of changes to our team, and I think we did very well against Tigers,’’ Evans said.

“We came together as a team. Tigers is always a very tough team, so I think we held our own very well.

“We’re getting more consistent which is really helping us, and I think our game and netball is improving every week.

“We’re closing those gaps down and we’re looking to win at least one game before the end of the season. We won one game last season and we’re hoping we can do the same again this season.

“We’re very happy, it’s a great team atmosphere and everyone is nice and friendly. It’s a great sport, so even if you’re not winning it’s still fun.”
