Applications accepted for education ministry scholarships

The application period for the Ministry of Education’s scholarships and awards programme has opened.

Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, said that close to $2 million in scholarships and awards are being offered this year, including a new award for male students wishing to enter the teaching profession.

The deadline for applications is April 8, and no late applications will be accepted.

Mr Rabain said: “The Ministry of Education Scholarships and Awards demonstrates our commitment to supporting Bermudian students and their ability to pursue postsecondary education.

“Since 2018, we have increased the scholarships and awards budget every year.”

“In an effort to promote greater gender diversity in the teaching profession, the Ministry of Education is launching a new awards programme designed to encourage male students to embark on a teaching career.

“We are excited to announce four new awards tailored for male students pursuing practicum experiences, aiming to inspire the next generation of male educators.”

There are 11 scholarship and award categories in total.

List of scholarships and awards

• The Minister’s Achievement Scholarship for graduating students of CedarBridge Academy and The Berkeley Institute studying overseas

• The Minister’s Exceptional Student Award for graduating students or school leavers with disabilities

• The Minister’s Technical and Vocational Award for public school graduates

• The Minister’s Applied Science Scholarship for graduating public senior school students

• The Further Education Award for current students who have completed at least one year at an accredited college or university for continued postsecondary study

• The Non-Traditional Student Award for persons aged 25 and over pursuing postsecondary study

• The Teacher Education Scholarship for current college or university students

• The Bermuda Government Scholarship for well-rounded graduating senior school, college or university students

• The University of the West Indies Scholarship provides funding for up to three years for either undergraduate or postgraduate students

• The College Promise Programme provides public high school graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher the opportunity to attend the Bermuda College, tuition-free

• The Bermuda College Book Award provides funding for books for Bermuda College students in financial need

Students must apply online at www.bermudascholarships.com. The full list of scholarship and award offerings can be found by typing “Ministry of Education” in the website search bar.
