BermudAir business-class seat design nominated for award
The company behind the BermudAir business-class seat design has been nominated for a top award.
The design, by Factorydesign, has been shortlisted in the International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2024 in the Cabin Design category.
The awards website said: “Factorydesign has unveiled the innovative BermudAir Aisle Class Suite, elevating the premium-class passenger experience for the start-up airline’s Embraer E175 aircraft, operating between the USA and Bermuda.
“BermudAir, a burgeoning airline connecting the East Coast of the USA to Bermuda, has launched operations with a focus on providing a two-class aircraft service comprising economy and business-class cabins.
“Opting for an accelerated timeline, the airline sought an efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable solution to create a business class cabin for its Embraer E175 aircraft.”
It added: “In a bold move, Factorydesign transformed the existing 2-2 configuration economy seats into a bespoke 1-1 business class suite, aptly named the Aisle Class Suite.
“By removing the seat back and pan from the inboard aisle seat and incorporating a purpose-built furniture piece directly attached to the seat track, Factorydesign ensured the creation of a premium space without impeding the existing seat.
“The suite boasts wider hip and thigh room facilitated by a modified seat pan cushion, along with a luxurious console, single-leaf table and additional stowage, including under-seat carry-on storage.”
BermudAir, which has just announced new flights to Orlando and Baltimore, is splitting its seating to have 14 seats in a business cabin and 52 seats in an economy cabin. The implementation of the new seating has been delayed due to production problems.
The website added: “Beyond the suite design, Factorydesign paid meticulous attention to broader passenger experience elements, aiming to curate a distinctive BermudAir-branded cabin ambience.
“Inspired by the serene ripples of shallow waves on the beach, the BermudAir Aisle Suite cocoons passengers in an atmosphere of privacy and comfort within the light, airy cabin.
“Featuring aisle-facing partitions accented with Bermudan cedar-wood bands, the suite exudes sophistication and offers a vanity shelf perfect for small personal items.
“Moreover, Factorydesign paid homage to the island’s culture by incorporating a thoughtful touch into the cabin ambience.
“The customised mood lighting shifts between turquoise blue for outbound flights and coral pink for inbound journeys, a charming nod to Bermuda’s tradition of bus route markers, celebrating the island’s rich heritage and adding a uniquely immersive touch to the BermudAir flight experience.”
The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2024 will be held in Cannes on May 31.
