Todd Dziak upsets defending champion Peter Bromby in DeSilva Cup
Todd Dziak caused an upset over defending champion Peter Bromby to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the DeSilva Cup in a bumper week of snooker action.
In the 2-0 victory over Bromby, Dziak got off to a good start, winning first frame 67-12. The second frame was a much closer contest, but Dziak prevailed 60-44 to seal a memorable success.
Dziak now faces his Spanish Point team-mate, Stewart Greenslade in the last eight stage of the competition. Greenslade was 2-0 victorious against Alan Smith. In a hard-fought encounter, Greensdale won 56-39 and 63-52 respectively.
Meanwhile, Steven Bremar defeated Martin Siese 2-1 at Warwick.
Bremar took an early lead when he took the first frame 76-49, only for Siese to equalise by winning the next 59-47. It was Bremar who clinched the win however, with a 69-38 triumph in the third frame.
Bremar’s opponent in the quarter-final will be the winner of the battle between Richard Burton and Paul Fedden.
There was also joy for Winslow Smith who overcame Chris Dakin 2-0 at Warwick, to set up a second round clash with Kenya Trott.
In the Zimmerman Team Challenge, Warwick Workmen's Club II edged Spanish Point Boat Club 3-2 in a night of black ball nail-biters.
Scott Barnes opened the scoring for Warwick, when he narrowly defeated Tyler Moniz 52-42 on the final black. Point Captain, John Orr levelled in the next in another blackball game, taking out Zane DeSilva 54-46.
Warwick captain Bremar made it 2-1 for his side when he overcame Richard Burton in the first of two frames together, taking it on the black 62-55.
In the doubles, the Point pairing of John Orr Tyler and Moniz levelled the match at 2-2 when they saw off Zane DeSilva and Scott Barnes 45-34.
With the match tied at 2-2, it was Bremar who closed out the win for Warwick, dispatching Richard Burton in the second of their two frames together, with the fifth black ball finish of the night, 55-48. Warwick now face Sandys Boat Club in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile Spanish Point II thumped WWC I 6-0 in a league encounter. Orr got Point off to a great start when he overcame Pamela Bremar 53-15. Richard Burton made it 2-0 for Point when he took out Trott 65-34 in the second.
It was 3-0 for Point when Moniz narrowly defeated Winslow Smith 51-46 on the black. The onslaught continued in the fourth frame, with Toby Wright comfortably overcoming Pamela Bremar 74-4.
Orr eased to a 98-22 win over Winslow Smith to make it 5-0 for Point. Richard Burton completed the whitewash when he beat Trott 50-24.
