Jumping to the fore as BHPA holds Winter Challenge
Bermuda’s leading equestrians were in action over the weekend in the Bermuda Horse and Pony Association Winter Challenge.
With 15 classes held over two days of competition, there was an opportunity for all ages and abilities to showcase their talents in front of enthralled spectators.
Tyler James and Cruise Control were the only partnership competing in the highest categories - 1.10 metres and 1.20m - but there was a duel for the 1.10m division with Abby Bardgett aboard Up, Up And Away just getting the better of Michael Rodrigues on Rambo
Alex McMartin displayed her talents on the back of Hornelli in the 1.00m and 1.05m divisions, while Kirista Rabain came out on top in three categories aboard Delta’s Roulette, with the pair winning the High Childrens/Adult Jumper 0.95m, the Jumper Seat Medal 0.95m and beating Ava Frias on Let’s Play in the High Childrens/Adult Classic 0.95m.
Erin Wheatley appears to be forming a good partnership with Koko Kanu and the pair beat out fierce competition from Michaiah Bremar on All In One and the combination of Courtney Sims and Natural Selection in the Low Childrens/Adult Classic 0.85m and the Jumper Seat Medal over the same height.
Bremar and Sims did gain some measure of compensation for those tight defeats with the former winning the Class 3 0.80m and the latter victorious in the Class 5 0.90m aboard Carina.
Simone Sainsbury beat off some stiff competition to win the Low Childrens/Adult Jumper 0.85m with her partner Face Off, while Logan Flood on the wonderfully named Wild Things Island Adventure won Class 2 0.75m. Paige Lindo was successful in Class 1 over 0.65m on her mount Moxie.
