Dear Sir,

I refer to the article in yesterday’s (February 8, 2024) Royal Gazette regarding the repairs needed for the eroded coastline at Westgate and that the Government is seeking proposals for this work.

I have to ask the question: would the Government not consider utilising the talents and workmanship of some of the skilled tradesmen who are “resident” at the facility and who are already on site and available to start this work at any time?

I appreciate that the work involved will need those tradesmen who have experience in such work. However, once the material is available and perhaps a contractor to oversee the work, there is a ready-to-go labour force on site.

What an opportunity to train some of the “residents” in a trade for their future employment when they are able to rejoin society. No doubt some of them would be happy to learn a new trade and take pride in a job well done.

Good idea? I think so.
