Primary schools to host open-house events
Parents can learn more about the island’s public primary schools during open-house events this week.
According to the Ministry of Education, schools in the eastern zone will hold open houses today, central schools will have theirs tomorrow and ones in the west will be open on Thursday. All will concern the schools’ incoming P1 classes.
The eastern zone encompasses all schools east of Tee Streetand central schools incorporate Gilbert Institute to Paget Primary. All other primary schools are located in the western zone.
Online registration for primary school students for the 2024-25 academic year will be available from February 26 until March 8.
All late applications will be processed after ones that were submitted on time.
Applications must be submitted with a copy of the student’s birth certificate, proof of their residential address (such as a bill or bank statement), permission to reside in Bermuda and proof of guardianship if the child is being registered by someone not on their birth certificate.
All students who register must celebrate their fifth birthday on or before December 31, 2024, and reside in the same zone as where the school they applied to is located.
The ministry added: “Where a school is located close to the end of a zone boundary, priority may be given to a child who resides between the school and the zone boundary over children who may live closer but towards the middle of the zone.”
Priority will also be given to applicants who have a sibling enrolled or already accepted into a primary school, but there must be adequate space to accommodate the child.
