Bermuda contingent impress at Presidential Classic in Orlando
A strong travelling contingent from the Bermuda Gymnastics Association competitive team gave a stellar showing at the prestigious Presidential Classic at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando Florida.
Chiefly among them was Tse Burgess, competing in the level 9 category, where she claimed first place on vault with a superb score of 9.75. She also went on to place sixth on bars (9.075), 11th on beam (7.65), eighth on floor (8.775) and seventh all around (35.25).
Level 8 athletes Ajana Patton and Sean Lawrence had a strong showing in their age groups. Patton also took top spot on vault with a score of 9.175, while also finishing fifth on bars (9.050), sixth on beam (8.7) and ninth on floor (8.9) to claim an all around placing of third (35.825).
Lawrence placed second on the bars with a score of 9.225, sixth on vault (8.2), ninth on beam (7.825) and fourth on floor (9.225) to finish fifth all around (34.475).
Level 6 included athletes Maddie Bigley, Hayleigh Cherry and Lexi Daniel. Highlights of their encouraging performances included Cherry scoring a 9.0 on bars for eighth place, while Bigley claimed a tenth-placed finish on floor (8.95) and Daniel scored 9.1 on bars to claim seventh place.
Also impressing was gold level athlete Yhari Goater-Jones who came third on floor with a score of 9.575, while also finishing fifth on bars (9.15), and 8.825 on beam on her way to seventh all around placing (36.55).
Also giving strong showings among the gold level were Isobel Stones, Cassandra Mayers, McKenna Redcliffe and Sadie Hocking.
Gymnasts competing in their very first competition at the silver level were Samantha Talosa, Bethany Davidge and Madeleine Pritchard.
Talosa’s highest event was the bars where she scored 9.25, while Pritchard also did well in that discipline scoring 9.125, as well as placing sixth on floor with and 8.975. Davidge’s best performance also came on bars where she scored 8.775.
The team will be hoping to build on their performances back on home soil in the Bermuda International Gymnastics Competition, scheduled to take place at the association’s St David’s location on March 16.
