Legislators have approved a “tidying-up exercise” for regulations over the licensing of aircraft in Bermuda.

Wayne Furbert, the transport minister, told the House of Assembly that the Civil Aviation (Air Transport Licensing) Amendment Act 2024 was “nothing complicated” but necessary to revise a set of rules dating back to 2007.

The licensing panel formerly included the Director of Tourism, with the title updated to chief executive of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

The legislation allows for the minister to appoint an alternate member to the panel of “an equivalent or similar position” to a member who is unavailable to perform any functions.

Scott Pearman of the One Bermuda Alliance signalled the Opposition’s support.
