Donna Raynor played a pivotal role during the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland at the weekend.

Raynor, who became the first Bermudian elected to the World Athletics Council last summer, was on hand to present her first medals as a member of the governing body to those on the podium for the women’s 60 metres final at the Emirates Arena.

In doing so Raynor presented Julien Alfred with St Lucia’s first ever gold medal after she crossed the line in a blistering time of 6.98 secs, pipping Ewa Swoboda, of Poland, who clocked 7.00, with Italy’s Zaynab Dosso rounding out the podium places in 7.05.

“My first medal presentation as a World Athletics Council member at the World Indoor Championships,” Raynor, the former Bermuda National Athletics Association president, wrote on her Facebook page.

“What an honour to present the gold medal to the 60m world champion from St Lucia. I love my sport.”
