Lindo’s Tigers prepare for Phoenix Heat in title decider
Ahead of their eagerly anticipated title showdown with Phoenix Heat at Bernard Park on Saturday, Lindo’s Tigers have climbed to the top of the Bermuda Netball Association Senior League.
After edging North Village 40-35 Anthony Mouchette’s side have moved on to 25 points, one more than defending champions Heat who still have two games to play.
A win for the unbeaten Heat on Saturday will take them to 27 points and mean they are crowned champions but Tigers could delay any celebrations should they triumph, which would mean Heat need to beat St George’s in their final match to win the league.
On Saturday, goal shooter Jahkenya Trott top scored for Tigers with 28 goals, while her twin sister Jahtuere, the Tigers captain, contributed twelve points.
Demiqua Daniels picked up the MVP accolade for the winning side, Jordyn Ming was voted the best attacker, with the most outstanding defender award given to Diara Benjamin.
Darrika Simons led the scoring for Village with 22 goals. Zhanae Simmons chipped in with ten and Coriah Simmons had three points. Akeyla Furbert was adjudged the Village MVP, Jada Richards won the attacker’s accolade and Hayley Francis Cann picked up the best defender prize for the vanquished side.
Jahtuere Trott is looking forward to facing Heat, the only team to beat Tigers this season.
“Phoenix is a tough team,’’ Jahtuere said. “We’ll continue playing how we’re playing, train how we’re training and we've got to play our game.
“Against Phoenix, we just have to defend and our shots have to count. Every time we have possession, we just have to capitalise on our scoring and that’s how we’ll keep up with them.”
On the match against Village, the Tigers captain felt that they played well and the pressure of the game had no effect.
“The match against North Village was a big one for us but we didn't have any pressure,’’ she said.
“One thing for sure is we definitely needed to win against Village, they’re a good team.”
Meanwhile, St George’s and Docksiders, the two bottom teams on the standings, played out a 30-30 draw on Monday.
