A man who damaged a window of a police car will be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court next week.

Jahkeem Thomas, 27, admitted breaking the window when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that officers saw Thomas, of no known address, sitting in front of Somerset Police Station on Wednesday.

He told them that he broke the window, which resulted in $492 in damage, and was taken to Hamilton Police Station.

Thomas told magistrate Maria Sofianos during his court appearance that he would “rather spend time in prison” than pay a fine or complete community service for the offence.

Ms Sofianos ordered a short-form mental-health report be written for Thomas and adjourned the case to March 15 for sentencing.

He was remanded in custody until that time.
