Bermudians are urged to switch off their lights and electrical devices to observe Earth Hour on Saturday.

In a call to action, Greenrock said Earth Hour presents an opportunity for all to create “a defining moment far too important to miss”.

A live Earth Hour broadcast is planned this year. “Let’s make this Earth Hour the biggest one yet!” the charity said.

Appreciation for the planet can be demonstrated by taking action throughout the campaign, which started on March 1 and runs until April 28, the charity said. The organisation will host a number of events during that time.

Residents can dedicate an hour to any indoor and outdoor activity. “It could be as simple as spending an hour outdoors to reconnect with nature or taking a few moments with family and friends to clean up along the coast,” the charity said.

Gardening or treks along the Railway Trail are good outdoor options. Indoor options include cooking meals with “locally sourced ingredients” or a sit-down with friends to view a nature documentary.

The charity said various stakeholders “have the power to share information that inspires students, family, friends, followers, work colleagues or neighbours to build a stronger appreciation for nature and become more environmentally engaged”.

The charity said members of the public can sign up at greenrock.org for the Sacred Earth Circle event, which will be held at Spirit House during Earth Hour.

“Remember, Earth Hour is a call to action. All we need from you right now is your commitment,” the charity said.
