Scott Barnes completes clean sweep in final round of Florida Winter Tour
Scott Barnes completed a clean sweep of victories in the final round of the Rok USA Florida Winter Tour in Orlando.
The Bermudian, representing Maranello Karts USA, was in a class of his own in the Shifters Masters division, winning all three heats, the pre-final and the 20-lap final.
Despite his sensational showing, the 39-year-old had to settle for a fourth-placed finish overall in the series after missing the opening round of action at the start of the year.
“There were 18 drivers in the class so a really strong field with a lot of fast guys competing,” said Barnes, who clinched two podium finishes in the second round in February.
“The final race was a long race of 20 laps on a really physical track. It was tough, but I got off to a good start and managed to build a gap to the second-placed driver.
“He started to close late on but I managed to hold on and win the final, which was amazing. It was a clean sweep throughout the weekend and so a great way to finish off the Florida Winter Tour Series.
“The kart was just amazing all weekend and I’m just so glad to be a part of the Maranello team and have the opportunity to be able to drive for them this year.
“I also have to thank Jeff Sousa, a fellow Bermudian, who is now working as a tuner for Maranello.”
Barnes will now turn his attention to the inaugural Stars Championship Series, which features four races, starting in Charlotte, North Carolina, next month.
“I’m looking forward to the races in April in Charlotte. I just can’t wait to get back out on track and hopefully get some more wins.”
