Police help partially clothed woman
Police took a woman into custody for her own safety yesterday after she was seen partially clothed and in distress and in Hamilton.
A police spokesman said that, at about 12.30pm, members of the public reported a “dark complexioned woman appeared to be wearing only a white T-shirt” in a state of distress on Reid Street near the junction with Queen Street.
The spokesman said: “The woman — who is believed to be 45 years old — was eventually located about 45 minutes later on Bermudiana Road near the junction with Front Street.
“Police officers from the Vulnerable Persons Unit attended Bermudiana Road and transported the woman to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a place of safety, but she ran off — now apparently fully clothed — towards the north roundabout.
“Two female VPU officers caught up with the woman at the north roundabout and took her into custody for her own safety — which was captured on mobile phone video and circulated on social media.”
The spokesman said the woman was then transported back to KEMH for assessment and appropriate care.
