Muslims encouraged to read whole Koran during Ramadan
“This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” – Koran 5:3
This verse is a great gift to the Muslim Ummah from Allah Almighty. It informs us that the religion for which the Prophet (pbuh) was sent was completed with all its teachings, principles, beliefs and morals on right and wrong.
Just as it is stated in this verse, Islam was perfected also by giving us Prophet Muhammad who taught us humanity and the ways of reaching happiness and success both in this world and the hereafter.
The Noble and Holy Koran was given to mankind as a final product during the blessed month of Ramadan. We therefore are strongly encouraged to reconnect with the Koran, especially during Ramadan. And we are encouraged to read the Koran in its entirety during Ramadan.
The Koran is divided into 30 parts, with each part called a Juz. Muslims are encouraged to read a Juz a day, thereby reaching the goal at the end of Ramadan. Today is the twelfth day of Ramadan. Ideally we should be on Juz 12.
However, Allah rewards us for our intentions and efforts. If we haven’t attained Juz 12 as yet, we can still plod along hoping to complete our goal by the end of Ramadan.
Charity is also very important in Islam, so doing charitable deeds, big or small is encouraged.
May we continue with our good intentions to complete our goal of gaining God’s pleasure which is a benefit only to us, as God does not need us in the least.
May we continue to reap the benefits of Ramadan when Allah is especially generous with His mercy and forgiveness. It would be wise of us to take advantage of this generosity; after all: “Which bounties of your Lord, will you deny?” (Koran 55:69)
May Allah bless us, keep us strong in our faith and accept our prayers and our fasts. Ameen.
Bermuda, let us continue to pray for peace and immediate ceasefire wherever war and unrest exist. As salaam alaikum (peace be unto you).
Ramadan Mubarek (Blessed Ramadan).
