Connor Hupman and Madelyn Moore have led the way on a night of medals for Bermuda at the Carifta Aquatics Championships in the Bahamas.

Hupman won gold in the 13-14 boys 50 metres backstroke and knocked 0.71sec off his previous best time when touching the wall in 28.33sec, just a tenth ahead of Ocean Van Loon of Bermuda, with Luke Higgo of the Cayman Islands finishing third in 28.85.

The 14-year-old was not the only Bermuda swimmer on the top step of the podium on Saturday night after Madelyn Moore led home a Bermuda one-two in the girls 18 and over 50 metres backstroke.

Moore, who represented the island at the Pan American Games in Chile and picked up a medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games last year, was the only swimmer to break 30 seconds in the final, winning in a time of 29.53sec.

Bermuda’s Logan Watson-Brown came home second in 30.01sec as the island dominated the race, with nearly a second and a half to bronze-medal winner Avi Tromp, from Aruba.

Adriana Argent picked up a silver medal in the 15-17 Girls 800 metres freestyle, clocking a time of 10:19.37

Rory Shepherd was the youngest of Bermuda’s medallists as he won bronze in the 11-12 boys 50 metre backstroke.

Shepherd knocked 0.5sec off his previous top performance to produce a personal best of 32.18 behind Harold Simmons of the Bahamas, who won in a time of 30.41, and Mihael Sobers of Barbados.
