Trial starts of man accused of touching schoolgirl
A man from Hamilton Parish allegedly touched a schoolgirl inappropriately on more than one occasion, Magistrates’ Court heard.
The 61-year-old denied three charges that he sexually touched the girl, who is under the age of 14, when he appeared in court. The offences allegedly took place between June 2022 and January 2023.
Neither the girl nor the accused can be identified for legal reasons.
On the first day of the man’s trial on Thursday, the girl told the court that the man touched her inappropriately “about four times” at a Hamilton Parish residence.
She said the touching lasted for about two minutes and occurred while her father was either not in the room or looking away.
She added that she was initially scared to tell her parents about the man’s alleged actions, but eventually did so.
The man’s trial, before magistrate Craig Attridge, continues.
