Wolves coach Tori Davis hopes his team can rekindle their glory days in the Premier Division on their return to the top flight next season.

After flirting with promotion the previous two seasons, Davis’s chargers finally cleared the last hurdle by finishing runners up in the First Division behind champions Devonshire Colts to clinch the sole remaining promotion spot up for grabs this season.

“It's been three seasons we have been fighting for it and have been very close, and I am glad the third time was a lucky charm,” Davis told The Royal Gazette. “It's a very big achievement for the club and long overdue.

“It's been ten years since the last time we have been in the Premier Division and I am very proud of these guys. They trained consistently in good numbers and I always have faith in them.”

Davis also praised the club’s management committee and coaching staff for their unwavering support and for also instilling a professional approach to the game, as well as some of his team’s key players who played integral roles in the team’s success on the pitch.

“The support, harmony and professional approach from the club administration and coaching staff has really inspired the players,” he added.

“The training drills and style of play has pushed us through and along with the quality players that came in, the likes of Lashun Dill, Jason Davis, Kris Caisey, Morricko Iris and a couple more has just really helped us.

“Special thanks to uncle Vince [Minors], Dasher [Kirk Douglas] and Curly Joe [Leroy Wilson], who also inspired and gave me a big helping hand.

“Also special thanks to Dennis Brown, Scott Morton and Kenny Thompson for their education. Those are the ones that inspired me to coach and pushed me forward.”

While thrilled to be back in the top tier, Davis is wary of the task awaiting them as the former Premier Division powerhouse try to re-establish themselves at that level.

“Just by getting promoted it’s not really over yet,” he said. “Now we need to establish ourselves as contenders in the Premier Division.

“I hope these guys don't stop training. I hope they give themselves two to three weeks off and then kick back in because it's not going to be easy in the Premier Division.

“I have seen a few Premier Division games this season and seen the quality, so these guys still need to be tuned in.”

Former Wolves player Davis, who also had stints with Boulevard, Somerset Trojans and Somerset Eagles during his heyday, also intends to bolster his squad during the off-season.

“Hopefully a few more quality, young key players come in and build the team as we look for more success or to be among the top contenders in the Premier Division,” he added.

“Some of the players we have are up in age and I don’t know if they are going to be able to withstand the top flight with their old legs, so I am looking for youngsters to come in and replace them in the future.”
