Gabriella Arnold finishes runner-up on mixed weekend for Bermuda cyclists
There have been contrasting fortunes for Bermuda’s professional cyclists this weekend.
Gabriella Arnold finished a fantastic second in the Rough Road 100, which took place on Saturday in Morris, Illinois, in the United States.
The 28-year-old, who races for the LA Sweat Cycling Club, completed the 100-kilometre course in 3 hours 0min and 26sec, nearly seven minutes behind the winner, 35 year-old Kayla Clemons, who stopped the clock in 2:53.51.
Arnold was more than eight minutes clear of the third-place finisher, Simone Hussussian, on an idiosyncratic course described as 63 percent road and 37 percent gravel surface mixture.
Kaden Hopkins concluded a disappointing Circuit des Ardennes by finishing 89th in the final stage.
The Bermudian, who had been battling to overcome the effects of a crash in the Boucle de l’Artois last week, finished nearly 17 minutes behind stage winner Joseph Blackmore, from Great Britain and 93rd overall.
Blackmore also won the overall classification, more than 54 minutes ahead of Hopkins.
Conor White took part in the Tour de Murrieta as he prepares for the Redlands Classic this week.
White finished 28th of the 74 cyclists behind Austin Outlaws team-mate Lucas Burgoyne on the opening stage, the Grand Prix, on Saturday before finishing ninth of 95 competitors in the circuit race yesterday.
