Trenching to affect traffic in Sandys and Devonshire
Trenching work will cause temporary lane closures in two areas of the island next week, the Ministry of Public Works said.
In a notice, the ministry said that between Monday and Friday, traffic on Somerset Road east of Somerset Bridge will be reduced to a single lane.
The closure is required to accommodate trench work for a damaged underground cable in the area.
The notice said: “The works shall occur between the hours of 9am and 4pm on the specified days.
“Traffic control will be managed by Belco representatives with cones and signs.
“Motorists are advised to use caution when travelling over the Somerset Bridge near the Robinson's Marina Gas station entrance.
“The Ministry of Public Works encourages the full co-operation of the public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result.”
In a separate notice, the ministry announced that North Shore Road and Palmetto Road on the west side of the Barkers Hill Roundabout in Devonshire will be reduced to a single lane on Monday.
The closure is intended to allow trenching for CCTV installation work.
“Traffic control will be managed by police constables during the trench works,” the notice said. “Pedestrians and pedal bike riders are advised to proceed through this area with caution.”
