Artists paint the town in first Bermuda mural festival
Several streets in north east Hamilton are now more picturesque thanks to the efforts of a team of international and local artists.
Eleven painters spent the last week decorating walls at the Butterfield & Vallis building on Woodlands Road and other streets in the City as part of the first Bermuda mural festival.
Woodlands Road was closed to traffic this afternoon as hundreds of spectators gathered to admire the larger-than-life paintings on one of the hottest days of the year.
Local artists Alshante Foggo, Shanna Hollis, Robyn Hooper, DaeNyce ‘Keile’ Rabain, Carlos Santana and Jabarri Wilson worked alongside international muralists Bacon, BK Foxx, CHNK, Hiero and Lauren YS.
The event was the brainchild of Spencer Butterfield, the chief executive of Butterfield & Vallis and cofounder of Bermuda Walls.
Mr Butterfield said: “The idea of Bermuda Walls has been kicking around for a long time as a family friend is Glayson Leroy, owner Wynwood Mural Fest — a wonderful celebration of street art and graffiti in Miami.
“For years we’ve dreamt about bringing that energy and creativity to Bermuda. This year, at last, with the help of Nhuri Bashir, all the pieces finally fell into place.’
“At Butterfield & Vallis, we’re committed to supporting the arts in Bermuda and we believe this is an amazing opportunity for the community to engage with and enjoy art in a new way.”
Nhuri Bashir, cofounder of Burnt House Productions and Bermuda Walls, added: “We're thrilled to be launching Bermuda Walls’s first-ever mural festival.
“This isn’t just a celebration of art but also a testament to the power of collaboration and community spirit. We invite everyone to join us for a weekend filled with creativity, inspiration and unforgettable memories.”
Additional entertainment was provided by DJs, a skateboarding demonstrations, pop-a-wheelie competitions, Gombeys, and face painting.
