The National Museum of Bermuda is hosting a series of free workshops to encourage the community to participate in its continuing crowdsourced project, Bermuda Family Scrapbook.

The project is an extension of the museum’s award-winning community education programme Tracing Our Roots/Routes, and is supported by its Future of History campaign.

Anyone who lives, or who has lived, in Bermuda is invited to submit historical family photographs and the stories behind them to the museum.

The workshops, called Bermuda Family Scrapbook Material Memories, make up a four-part series that will be held at the Bermuda National Library led by Janet Ferguson.

Dr Ferguson, a community education and social arts practitioner with a special interest in lifelong learning, is a museum trustee.

Participants are invited to become part of a collective narrative through sharing personal and communal history.

Stories, anecdotes and memories will contribute to the diverse narrative of Bermuda's cultural heritage.

Deborah Atwood, museum curator, said: “Have you ever pondered over the old photographs tucked away in your home? Each image holds within it a story waiting to be shared.

“From posed portraits to candid snapshots, every photograph is a portal to a moment in time, a window into the lives of those captured within.

“In our workshop, participants will engage in excavating, sharing and crafting short pieces of writing that explore the personal, intellectual and historical associations they have with a precious family photograph.

“These photographs serve as vessels for our memories, carrying within them the essence of the people and events we hold dear.”

The workshop is capped at eight people, so interested parties are asked to register as soon as possible.
