Bermudian motorcyclist Aeziah Divine has made his way to Navarra, Spain, as he prepares to take part in the first race of the R & G British Talent Cup this weekend.

The 14-year-old, who has signed for the championship-winning race team Microlise Cresswell Racing, will put his bike through its paces in testing sessions on Thursday and Friday before the season opener on Saturday. A further two races are also lined up on Sunday.

Divine has been training and competing on his Moto5 MIR Racing 250cc motorcycle for the past year, previously racing in the MIR Racing Finetwork Cup, in Spain, but he has been faced with a touch challenge in adapting to a different bike.

“The bike is quite different from the R & G British Talent Cup Moto3 motorcycle, a Honda NSF250R,’’ Divine said.

“The NSF runs more like a Husky [Husqvarna] 450 than any of my other bikes. I’ve ridden a Husky once in Spain and the power and speed are similar to those bikes.”

The young rider is part of a handful of rookies joining the R & G British Talent Cup this season as they seek to take on some established front-runners while at the same time gaining experience.

There are 29 riders registered in the class from the United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand and India with a number of late and wild card entries throughout the season usually contributing to a grid of around 34 riders.

As he heads into his first testing session, Devine is keen to not make too many predictions regarding his season goals, but he is instead focusing on having a good season as he takes the next step in his sporting career.

“I met the full Microlise Cresswell Racing team a few weeks ago at my first unofficial test day with them,’’ he said.

“They were very welcoming and supportive and helped me to learn the bike quickly throughout that day.

“I’m sure we will work well together this season. This week we will learn a lot more about areas I’m strong in and what areas I will have to focus on throughout the season.”

Divine is searching for sponsors and partners to assist him continue flying the island’s flag, but he expressed his appreciation to Aries Sports Centre, Butterfield & Vallis, Ashanti Leadership, Mailboxes, Vibe 103 and Aceboy Sports Gro, who are all helping to make this weekend and the upcoming BTC season possible.
