A herald of summer nears with Harbour Nights launching next month — and the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is partnering with others to make the 2024 season “eco-friendlier“.

The business umbrella body is joining forces with the City of Hamilton to streamline waste management and promote recycling for the crowd-pleasing weekly event.

The chamber aims to make recycling more accessible and efficient, as well as cutting down the event's environmental footprint.

A spokeswoman for the City, a longstanding major sponsor, commended the chamber for “leveraging their influence and ingenuity to encourage more environmentally conscious practices for the 2024 Harbour Nights season”.

“The chamber’s strategies to further recycling efforts and foster a more sustainably conscious community mindset will undoubtedly have a tangible impact on local sustainability efforts overall.

“We fully support them in this endeavour as we echo the call to be more environmentally aware as collective stewards of this planet.”

In its partnership with Keep Bermuda Beautiful and Beyond Plastic Bermuda, the chamber will offer a free information session for vendors on Wednesday.

The meeting will share “valuable insights into sustainable business practices and practical tips on reducing environmental impact”.

Traci Burgess, the executive director of KBB, said the group was “thrilled” to pitch in.

Ms Burgess added: “KBB and our colleagues at Beyond Plastic Bermuda encourage everyone to think sustainably and support local vendors.

“We appreciate all of the businesses that are taking steps to lessen their environmental footprint by providing eco-friendly products and packaging."

The chamber is offering vendors a discount of up to 15 per cent on vendor fees to encourage going green.

“This discount will be available to vendors who demonstrate significant efforts in integrating sustainable practices into their operations.”

Danielle Riviere, chief executive of the chamber, called the move “a testament to our dedication to not just talk about sustainability, but actively foster it”.
