Warwick residents hit by power outage

Hundreds of West End residents have been hit by a power outage yesterday afternoon.

The outage occurred at about 4pm and has affected almost 800 properties in Warwick.

The Royal Gazette understands that a fault at Belco’s Belmont substation may be responsible for the lack of power.

A company spokesman said: “Belco is aware of an outage affecting some of our customers in the western end of the island.

“Our crew has been dispatched and is working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Please exercise extreme caution when driving, walking or riding near our working crews.

“The safety of you, our crew, the public and all road users is paramount.

“If you are affected by this outage, please unplug all sensitive equipment and electronics. We thank you for your patience as we work to restore your power.”

Belco’s outage map shows other outages across the island.

However, the spokesman confirmed that these were isolated incidents involving single properties, and were not related to the Warwick outage.
