Heritage Month schedule of events announced
The theme of this year’s Heritage Month celebrations is “Culture = Energy” and the schedule of events has been announced.
The Department of Culture said there is “a plethora” of historic and cultural events, and entertainment planned.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, noted: “Heritage Month is one of the most highly anticipated times of year as we celebrate our island’s culture and traditions that make us proud to be Bermudian.
“This year, I am excited to celebrate the energy of our heritage all month long, and particularly on Bermuda Day, which falls on the traditional date of Friday, May 24.”
• Heritage Month Yoga, Bermudaful Centre for Mindfulness and the Department of Culture: 11am every Saturday at Spirit House, 65 Middle Road
• Bermuda Arts Council 2024 awards ceremony: Ruth Seaton James Auditorium, 6pm to 8pm on May 4
• “Cultural Roots and Green Shoots: A Celebration of Heritage and Environment“ Harbour Nights sponsored by the Department of Culture and Keep Bermuda Beautiful: May 15
• The Bermuda Day Parade: Hamilton, on May 24
• The Chewstick Foundation Open Mic Jam Sessions sponsored by the Department of Culture: Blue Waters Anglers Club, doors open at 7pm on May 26
The full schedule of events is available at culture.bm
For a second year, the community was encouraged to donate to Bermuda Day Parade participants through the Bermuda Day Fund.
Interested sponsors for the support, a partnership with the Bermuda Foundation that offers up to $2,500 towards expenses for parade entrants, can donate by visiting www.GiveBermuda.org. Donations are accepted into the Bermuda Day Fund year-round.
Applications for entry were extended until May 3.
To celebrate the launch of Heritage Month, the Department of Culture posted a video across various social-media platforms.
Filmed and edited by videographer Qian Dickinson and featuring music by Bermudian artist Ninja Cutty, the film showcased Bermuda Day energy from previous years.
The public can view the Bermuda Day Parade live on the Government’s Facebook page, its CITV YouTube channel and on CITV: One Communications channel 2 and WoW channel 102.
