A man charged with murder admitted yesterday to his lack of surprise when he learnt of his former housemate’s death.

Davin Providence, who is accused of killing Jevon Daniels on an unknown date between May 13 and June 17, 2016, told prosecutor Carrington Mahoney he had “already heard rumours” about what became of Mr Daniels after the father of one was reported missing on May 16.

Mr Mahoney questioned Mr Providence after he told jurors on Wednesday that he had nothing to do with the death of Mr Daniels, with whom he shared an apartment in Sandys.

Mr Mahoney said the reason the defendant knew Mr Daniels was dead before his body was found decomposed near Ireland Rangers Field on June 17, 2016, was that he “took him out”.

He accused Mr Providence of wrapping Mr Daniels’s body in trash bags, a blanket, plastic and tape, which he had access to through his job, after killing him.

A forensic pathologist was unable to determine the cause of Mr Daniels’s death because of the condition of the body.

Under cross-examination, Mr Providence repeatedly denied the accusation.

However, he admitted downloading apps on to Mr Daniels’s Blu smartphone on May 14, 2016 — the day after he was last seen alive.

The trial, before Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe, continues.
