Crime Stoppers Bermuda, which operates a 24-hour confidential hotline, reminded the public that it offers rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest, conviction or seizure of a firearm

Crime Stoppers Bermuda, which operates a 24-hour confidential hotline, reminded the public that it offers rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest, conviction or seizure of a firearm.

The charity’s notice comes after a daylight attack in Pembroke in which four people were injured by gunfire on Middle Town Lane.

Using the anonymous 800-8477 number empowers the community to help fight against crime without revealing a name, and can be used by anyone who fears appearing in court or speaking to authorities after witnessing an incident.

A Crime Stoppers poster said: “We don’t want to know your name. We just want your information.”

The hotline, which links to a stand-alone network at the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers call centre in Florida, does not come with caller identification, and conversations are not recorded.

The public can also safely pass along information using its anonymous online form.

The organisation’s mission states: “Through our promise of anonymity, vulnerable individuals and communities can stand up against crime without fear of intimidation or possible retaliation.”

A Crime Stoppers Bermuda branch was founded in 1995; it operates with the assistance of the island’s concerned business community.

The charity added that it “enables the caller to give information in a positive atmosphere without the prospect of retribution”.
