Phased opening for Grotto Bay expansion project
A renovated dining room at a popular holiday resort is expected to open this week as part of a programme of work to breathe new life into the property.
Grotto Bay Beach Hotel and Spa will undergo significant changes before the busy tourism season sets in.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, said he was pleased to see the work under way after a recent tour of the grounds.
He added: “The level of investment into the resort’s expansion project is a testament to the confidence placed in Bermuda’s tourism product.
“Grotto Bay Beach Resort and Spa is one of the tourism stakeholders to benefit from recent amendments to the Tourism Investment Act 2017, which grants the minister responsible for tourism greater discretion to grant relief to developers or investors in new or refurbished hotels, new or existing restaurants, and tourism attractions.
“I thank the resort, developers and hotel staff for their taking bold and innovative steps to enhance Grotto Bay’s product offering.”
J.P. Martens, the managing director of the hotel, said that the Palm Court dining room and guest bathrooms were expanded and redecorated. They are both expected to reopen this week.
Renovations to the beach terrace, which will increase seating by 40 per cent, are expected to be completed by the end of the month.
The hotel is anticipating further work on the Hibiscus Dining Room, the East Dining Room and the Panorama Lounge.
Completion of these projects will take place between the end of May and mid-July.
Several tourism properties have been given relief under the Act, including the Bermudiana Beach Resort, Ariel Sands, Cambridge Beaches, Rosewood Bermuda, Nautilus Hotel, and Azura Bermuda.
