Dog owners have been urged by the Corporation of Hamilton to clean up after their pet’s waste within city limits.

A city spokeswoman reminded the public that failing to clean up after their pet was an offence under sections 3 and 4 of the Dogs Act 2008 and could result in fines.

Dwayne Caines, the chief executive of the Corporation of Hamilton, said: “Hamilton is a vibrant community where people live, work and visit.

“It's therefore disheartening when we hear reports of people’s encounters with dog waste on our streets.

“Not only does it create an unsightly and unpleasant environment, but it also poses health risks to our residents and visitors.”

Mr Caines added: “As stewards of our city's cleanliness and safety, we're taking proactive measures, including the use of CCTV for monitoring and enforcement.

“Let's work together to keep Hamilton clean and enjoyable for everyone."
