Bermuda’s young athletes among the medals
Three of the island's top young track and field athletes enjoyed success across the United States at the weekend.
Chiefly among them was Ryan Outerbridge, representing Franklin Pierce University, who sealed victory across three different distances in the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships in New Haven, Connecticut.
The 20-year-old triumphed in the 1500 metres, clocking a winning time of 3min 55.60sec, added another success in the men’s 3,000 metres steeplechase and helped anchor the men's 4x800 relay team to victory in a time of 7:59:35.
Outerbridge also gave a spirited performance in the 5,000 metres, in which he finished sixth.
There was also joy for sprinter Caitlyn Bobb, who competed for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, as she tasted success at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Fairfax, Virginia.
Taking to the track in the women's 400 metres, Bobb claimed top spot on the podium, crossing the line in a winning time of 53.84.
Elsewhere, high-jumper Sakari Famous continued her stellar recent run of form by clinching a silver medal at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Houston, Texas.
As part of the McNeese University team, Famous managed a best jump of 1.82 metres to finish second behind Jenneil Jacobie of Texas A&M University-Commerce, who took victory with a leap of 1.85 metres with her final effort.
The silver medal comes just a week after Famous, who is continuing her comeback from a stress fracture to her back, secured gold at the regular season-ending ULM Warhawk Classic, after clearing the bar at 1.75metres.
