A man will serve six months behind bars for stealing from two businesses.

Raymond Robinson, 60, admitted stealing a bottle of perfume from Brown & Co and a package of boxer shorts from the MarketPlace, as well as disobeying written instructions barring him from entering the supermarket, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month.

Robinson, from Pembroke, was initially ordered to participate in Drug Treatment Court, but was not considered suitable for the programme. He reappeared in court for sentencing this week.

Prosecutor Tjana Wharton said Robinson, who has 30 previous convictions for theft, “expresses persistent unwillingness to change” and suggested he be sentenced to between three and four months for stealing, and between one and two months for trespassing.

She requested that the sentences be suspended for two years.

Magistrate Craig Attridge called Robinson’s criminal record “horrendous” and said he could not find a good reason to suspend his sentence.

Mr Attridge ordered Robinson to spend three months in custody for each offence of theft, to run consecutively, and one month for trespassing, which he will serve concurrently.
