Belco staff who died while working for the company were remembered at a service on Friday.

The ceremony for 18 employees of the electricity supplier was part of an occupational health, safety and environment training day.

During the day, which had the theme of “The Life Saving Behaviour of Safety Controls”, various seminars were held with dedicated sessions for women’s and men’s health, mental health and wellness as well as an electric vehicle car show.

Members of the emergency services and the public attended two training sessions on electrical vehicle safety, and fire extinguisher usage.

The session also provided participants with an understanding of fire hazards and fire safety arrangements, use of fire extinguishers and what emergency evacuation procedures should entail.

Wayne Caines, the president of Belco, said: “Health and safety is at the heart of Belco’s operations, and we were always pleased to share our knowledge of safe work practices and how to ensure a safe working environment with employees and members of the public.

“The day was a great success, I would like to thank all those who participated, and we look forward to next year.”

Henry Thorne, Manuel Moniz, Manuel DeMoura, Philip Correia, Ernest Dowling, Orion Hall, Geoffrey Frith, Frank Hassell, Robert Ottley, Ralph Millett, Percy Iris, and Malik Blyden.
