A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: “Early information suggests that a container truck carrying a 40ft container was travelling south on Canal Road, when it came into contact with a large overhead beam and a retaining wall, causing major damage to the wall and truck.”

The driver of the truck, which was understood to belong to JV Transport, was not said to be injured.

The beam was placed onto a smaller truck so it could be taken from the scene.

A Ministry of Public Works spokesman added later that an emergency road closure was in place at the start of Canal Road, adjacent to Marsh Folly Road, until further notice.
