A cohort of 35 students who enrolled in the Government’s 2024 Youth Employment Programme completed a full-day orientation session, the Minister of Economy and Labour said.

Jason Hayward added: “These opportunities are critical to Bermuda's Youth Employment Strategy Goal number 4, ensuring young people receive relevant work experience to better prepare them for gainful employment.”

Last week’s session, Build your best self, was held at the Argus Group and included student group discussions, self-reflection and interactive activities.

Topics covered included personal branding, growth mindset versus fixed mindset, how to be a team player, workplace etiquette, budgeting, self-care and everyday ethics.

Mr Hayward said: “I want to thank the Department of Workforce Development team and the public, private and non-profit businesses for partnering with the Government to facilitate creating an environment for a high-quality workforce and empowering our youth to engage in professional and personal growth.

“These opportunities provide meaningful workplace experiences for our youth, creating a foundation for entering the world of work and building citizens who will positively contribute to our island.”

Etienne Wolffe, a participant in last week’s activity, thanked the people who organised the orientation event.

He added: "It helped me prepare for a great start to my first day.”

The ministry said 100 college students and 80 high school pupils will have the opportunity to enjoy work placements from May 13 to September 6 as part of the programme.
