United Airlines service between Bermuda and New Jersey will run year-round for the first time since 2016, it was announced today.

Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Transport, said: “We have always strived for United to resume year-round air service from Newark, and I am grateful for their continued commitment to the Bermuda route.

“This decision is a win for our tourism and business sectors, and especially for our residents who frequently travel to and from the New York area.

“United Airlines, a reliable and valued partner for Bermuda for 35 years, has once again demonstrated their dedication to our community, and we eagerly anticipate further strengthening our relationship in the future.

While the airline already offers flights between Bermuda and Newark Liberty International Airport, in recent years the service has halted during the winter months.

A ministry spokeswoman said that the airline will now offer daily service during the summer, with four weekly flights during the winter.

The spokeswoman said that Mr Furbert, in collaboration with the island’s air service development team, met United Airlines officials at their Chicago headquarters in February with the goal of extending the seasonal schedule.
