Southampton Oval (Bermuda under-19 won toss): Bermuda under-19 beat Southampton Rangers by 118 runs

Bermuda Under-19 coach Janeiro Tucker has dedicated his team’s emphatic 118- run triumph over former club Southampton Rangers in honour of team manager Russell Richardson, who passed away last week.

Led by centuries from Jermal Proctor and Zakao Hart, Bermuda Under-19 amassed 302 all out in 48.3 overs after electing to bat first in the First Division 50 overs contest at Southampton Oval on Saturday.

Callum McIntosh and Luke Horan then claimed three wickets each and Dionte Dowling two as Rangers were dismissed for 184 in 39.5 overs.

“The victory was for manager Russell Richardson who has done a lot for these guys and myself,” Tucker told The Royal Gazette.

“It was all for him and they told me before the game that they would win for the manager.”

Opening batter Proctor was top scorer for the under-19s with 109 from 95 balls, including 14 boundaries.

Hart joined all-rounder Proctor at the crease at the beginning of the fifteenth over and together the pair put the Rangers attack to the sword with some aggressive stroke play, adding 106 runs for the fourth wicket in 15 overs to lay the foundation for their team’s massive total.

Middle-order batter Hart thumped nine fours and two sixes in a swashbuckling innings of 107 from 119 balls to keep the hosts toiling in the field.

“Proctor and Zakao batted very well and I am so proud of them to each get centuries,” Tucker said.

“I want them to keep improving and believe in themselves and their ability.”

Donte Brangman led the Rangers bowling with three for 58 and wicketkeeper Nacori Smith their batting, lashing three sixes and four boundaries in a dashing knock of 42 from 46 balls.

The win was the second straight for Bermuda Under-19s after they handed Warwick their first loss of the season in their previous outing.

“It was a good win and the first time we have had the full team together,” Tucker added.

“It’s too bad that we lose Luke Fulton and Zeri Tomlinson as they go back to school.

“The team on a whole played very well and did everything I asked of them, but there’s still a lot more to improve.

“They all have quality but it has to be shown on the field of play. If I can get them all playing proper cricket and believe it's possible that’s all I want and they are improving.”
