Generator work to limit hospital parking
Parking at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital will be reduced temporarily this month as a new generator is installed at the building.
Preston Swan, acting chief operating officer at the Bermuda Hospitals Board, said having an additional generator would help to safeguard the facility’s electrical supply.
“It will work with the two existing generators to provide redundancy and ensure we have enough power to back up all essential systems, including air conditioning and ventilation, during a Belco power outage,” Mr Swan said.
“Paget Health Services, our partner in building and maintaining the Acute Care Wing, is managing and delivering the project as part of its obligations under the public-private partnership contract.”
Parking in the main Acute Care Ward visitor car park will be reduced from June 10, but additional parking has been set aside along Point Finger Road in the hospital’s Springfield staff parking lot.
Signage will be posted and security staff stationed in both lots to assist hospital visitors in securing parking.
Nicole Caines, general manager of Paget Health Services, said the construction phase of the project is expected to last 16 weeks.
“We will be constructing housing for the new generator on top of a building in the main visitor car park at the ACW,” Ms Caines said. “Once this work has been completed, we will proceed with the installation.
A BHB spokeswoman said the entire generator project is expected to take 30 weeks to complete — at no cost to the quango.
