Two Bermudian aerialists will fly high in a new circus this year.

Kallie Marcus, who performed with Super American Circus last October, said that her former aerial arts teacher Montana DeBor approached her about being in a show by her company, Menagerie Productions.

She explained: “My experience with Super American Circus last year was amazing, so I’m definitely looking forward to the next time and seeing what Montana has up her sleeve.”

Ms Marcus said preparing for the circus was “work from the heart, because we are all doing what we love to do and we do it for the children and to inspire them”.

One of Ms Marcus’s students, 16-year-old Satinka Smith, will also be in the production.

Ms Smith has been an aerialist for about eight years and won a bronze medal in the Lyra Hoop discipline during her first aerial competition, the Aerialympics Season VIII Regional, in 2021.

She said: “I have trained with Ms Marcus since February, and was introduced to Ms DeBor through a workshop in March.

“It was a really spontaneous meeting. I showed [Ms DeBor] what I could do, she saw my potential and asked if I wanted to be part of the circus — of course I said yes.

“Outside of the physical challenge, being an aerialist is also a mental challenge, but it’s something that I genuinely enjoy.

“I love being able to share my gift with the world.”

Ms DeBor, who managed the Super American Circus show in Bermuda, formed Menagerie Productions with her husband, Facundo Kramer, about a year ago.

She said: “We are not doing this to become some big entity; we want bring our shows to smaller countries where circuses do not normally go.”

The company’s first show, Circus International, took place at the Kendal Isaacs gym in Nassau, Bahamas, last month and six of its eight performances were sold out.

Menagerie Productions partnered with the Rotary Club of East Nassau to present the spectacle and raised $20,000 for the organisation’s charities.

Ms DeBor added: “Facundo and I worked on so many different shows, and anything charitable was usually put last, which I understand, it is a business, but ours puts the charitable cause first.

“We strive to include local entertainment and performers in our shows, and I am really excited about incorporating live musicians and a local youth act.”

Although dates and a venue are yet to be confirmed, the circus is expected to visit Bermuda this year.
