Elliot Primary students receive free breakfasts
Elliot Primary students enjoyed a free breakfast last month as part of a campaign launched by Bermuda is Love.
A spokesman for the group said the meal, a part of the organisation’s #FreedomFromWant campaign, was intended to ensure the students had a start to their day that supported developmental needs.
Aaron Crichlow, of Bermuda is Love, explained: “By ensuring that children receive the nutrition they need, we hope to help break the cycle of poverty, improve educational outcomes and promote long-term health and economic stability.
“Bermuda Is Love believes that such initiatives underscore the importance of providing for basic human needs as a foundation for a just and equitable society.”
The breakfast on May 21, which was catered by La Trattoria and Butterfield & Vallis, included pancakes, eggs, sausages, fruit and juice for all pupils at the school.
George Barbieri, of Bermuda Is Love, said: “Both La Trattoria and Butterfield & Vallis did not hesitate to support us on this project again and we honestly could not have done it without their generosity.
“Having their continued support towards making free school meals a reality is a beautiful example of how our visions of a better community can be realised through us working together, as a community.
“The successful return of the programme shows that this event is not an isolated circumstance, but a growing pattern which is becoming not just promising or hopeful — but real.”
