City sponsors special needs school
A special needs school has won a charitable award from the City of Hamilton.
The Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning, based in Hamilton, was this year’s choice by the city’s social committee to receive funds raised at its annual Christmas party raffle.
Dwayne Caines, the Hamilton chief executive officer, said BCCL had an “invaluable” impact on children, especially those with neurodivergent needs.
He added: “We are deeply committed to supporting the unique educational needs of the BCCL students, who represent a vital and important demographic within our city.”
Mr Caines said the City also covered all park rental fees when the BCCL held its “mini-Olympics” sports day last month in Victoria Park.
Cindy Corday, the BCCL head of school, said it was the school’s first-ever sports day.
She added: “This event was a culmination of our learning about the origins of the Olympics in ancient Greece and the upcoming event this summer in Paris.”
The private school caters to children from age 6 who think and learn differently.
Most students have been assessed and diagnosed with various language-based learning differences.
The school’s mission is to empower students, providing a personalised and flexible learning environment focused on youngsters’ social-emotional and academic needs.
