Fire service holds educational event for senior residents
Senior residents learnt about the work of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service when they interacted with a crew at a community event.
As part of the Home Fire Safety Visit Programme, a BFRS team visited the Peace Lutheran Church in Paget to share information on fire safety, specifically addressing slip and fall accidents.
The crew, led by Sergeant Kingsley Mundy, also provided detailed explanations about firefighting and station operations, covering topics such as the types of calls BFRS responds to, the strategic positioning of fire trucks and the concept of standby points.
Seniors were able to learn about the firefighters’ equipment and the large volume of water carried on appliances.
Dana Lovell, the Chief Fire Officer, said: “Our dedication to the community extends beyond emergency response.
“Engaging with our senior residents and providing them with essential safety information is a key part of our mission to protect and serve.
“We are dedicated to promoting a strong connection with all members of our island."
The fire service said the event not only educated the participants but also “underscored the critical role that BFRS plays in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the community”.
