Women entrepreneurs were inspired and gained insight into business strategies at a two-day event this week.

A government spokeswoman said Ibukun Awosika, a Nigerian businesswoman and philanthropist, led an “array of enlightening sessions and activities” at the inaugural Mary Prince Women’s Entrepreneurial and Leadership Conference.

The first day of the conference explored ethical leadership and how to create meaningful change and the second highlighted the importance of resilience and creativity to create successful business ventures.

In addition to leading the conference, Ms Awosika, the first chairwoman of the First Bank of Nigeria, discussed her journey to success at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Monday.

More than 60 people attended her lecture, which also featured a chat with event curator Dana Selassie and refreshments from women vendors for sale.

Dr Selassie said the conference “set a new benchmark for empowering and inspiring women entrepreneurs in Bermuda”.

She added: “As we look to the future, the lessons and connections forged during this conference will continue to drive positive change and innovation within our community.”

Dr Selassie said: “We look forward to an even larger event next year with more community support for our women vendors.”

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, who also spoke at the conference, said it had “positively inspired and empowered our local entrepreneurs through engaging masterclasses”.

She added: “Women entrepreneurs have a right to be seen and heard as we build a brighter future for Bermuda.”
