Luke Horan picks up five-wicket haul as Warwick beat PHC

Luke Horan jumps into the air after getting five wickets for Warwick against PHC

Luke Horan picked up five wickets as Warwick bolstered their promotion hopes with a three-wicket win over PHC in a First Division 50 overs contest on Sunday.

In a game reduced to 24 overs, opening bowler Horan claimed five wickets and batters Akeem Ible (35), Omari DeShields (25 not out) and Marcus Johnson (24) made valuable contributions to help their team overcome a poor start to their chase.

Horan was in menacing form with new the ball on the way to impressive figures of five for 12 from five overs as PHC scored 155 for six after electing to bat. Third-change Corey Burgess (one for 38) claimed the hosts remaining wicket to fall.

PHC were cruising at 103 for one but were pegged back after losing five wickets in the space of six overs with Horan inflicting the heaviest damage.

Davon Dill was PHC’s top runscorer with 67 while opener Ori Wilson added 51 before his dismissal ignited a major slide.

Warwick suffered a major collapse of their own at the start of their reply with their first five wickets falling for 44 runs in just eight overs, but Johnson and Ible stabilised the inningss, adding 65 for the sixth wicket to get their team back on track.

Ible then added another 32 runs with DeShields before he was dismissed with victory within sight.

DeShields and wicketkeeper Ajani Lee (five not out) knocked off the remaining runs to see Warwick home with just one ball to spare.

Darrien Gibbons (two for 20), Dionte Dowling (two for 22) and Sage Carter (two for 21) claimed two wickets apiece for PHC.

Warwick coach Lorenzo Tucker was pleased with his side’s performance.

“It was a close game as I expected as PHC are a well-coached team and looked good,” Tucker said.

“We didn’t bowl very well to start the game and then they scored 155 from 24 overs in a reduced match, which I thought was a challenging total.

“Then all our top players were out and we hadn’t even scored 50 runs, so it didn’t look good.

“Marcus Johnson and Akeem Ible batted brilliantly to bring us back into the match where we needed a run a ball for the last ten overs.

“They batted extremely well and when they went we had Omari DeShields and Ajani Lee get us across the line for a fantastic team win.

”‘I am very proud of the guys for showing character and that is going to send us a long way.“

Also bolstering their promotion hopes was Devonshire who beat Southampton Rangers by 49 runs at Southampton Oval.

In a match reduced to 22 overs, Devonshire scored 150 for nine after electing to bat with Drewonde Bascome (45), wicketkeeper Ajai Daniels (35 not out) and George O’Brien Jr (33) producing the bulk of their runs.

Quilahn Richardson led the Rangers attack with four for 19 while captain Dalin Richardson took two for 23.

With an asking rate of 6.82 runs per over, Southampton fell short after being dismissed for 101 in 19.2 overs.

Rangers were 70 for three but lost their remaining wickets for 31 runs in the space of eight overs.

Bascome also led the Devonshire bowling with three for 22 while O’Brien (two for 21) and Chris Dailey (two for nine) claimed four wickets between them.

The remaining match featured Somerset Bridge beating Flatts by 42 runs at White Hill Field.

Bridge received useful contributions throughout their order on the way to posting 180 all out in 48.4 overs after electing to bat.

Jason Smith led the way with 43 while Charles Trott chipped in with an unbeaten 32, Callum McIntosh 28, Shayne Hollis 26 and Neil Thakur 20.

Paul Carr-Harvey was the pick of the Flatts bowling with four for 36 and received good support from Sai Kumar, who claimed three for 30.

An early collapse resulted in Flatts being reduced to 73 for five and they never really recovered before finally being dismissed for 138 in 40 overs.

Donnie Charles led the Bridge bowling with four for 38 while Hollis (two for 25) and Thakur (two for 20) bagged two wickets each.

Reggie Baker topped the Flatts scoring with 37, while captain Kijuan Franks and Nelson Bascome Jr stroked 22 each.
