Global reinsurer Ariel Re has four summer interns in its Bermuda office.

The students are Gaby Furr, who attends Queen’s University and studies political science and economics; Heston Kessell who attends the University of Guelph and studies economics; Moriah Wheddon, who is studying accounting at Bermuda College; and Matthew Brookes, who attends the University of Kent, studying finance and investment.

They will learn much about reinsurance and the industry. Interns will learn about a variety of roles within the sector, including underwriting and claims, catastrophe modelling and actuarial science.

As well as working in the different departments, they will be tasked with several projects as they attend daily meetings.

The internship programme is now in its fourth year, with students being exposed to a variety of roles within the sector, including underwriting and claims, catastrophe modelling and actuarial science.

Lindsay Hyland, Ariel Re’s head of human resources, said the company is committed to careers enhancement.

She said: “We hope that the new group of students eventually seek a career in reinsurance and may even want to join us, permanently.”
