Prowler jailed for 18 months
A serial offender who was seen prowling around a home in St George has been sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
Stanley Davis, 57, pleaded guilty to prowling at the property on Water Street when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month.
The court heard that Davis, of no fixed address, ran towards York Street after being seen at the residence on May 13.
He told officers he would have stolen a bike from the property “if the wheels looked nice”.
Davis has been in custody since pleading guilty and reappeared in court yesterday for sentencing.
Prosecutor Tjana Wharton highlighted Davis’s numerous previous convictions, including for theft, burglary and assault, which date back to the 1980s.
She suggested Davis spend between 18 months and two years behind bars for the offence.
Davis acknowledged his “chequered past” during yesterday’s appearance and told magistrate Aura Cassidy that he “fell off the horse” within the past 18 months.
Ms Cassidy called Mr Davis’s criminal record “extraordinary” and ordered that time already spent in custody be taken into account in his 18-month sentence.
She also ordered that Davis to complete two years probation once his prison term ended and that he refrain from drugs and alcohol throughout this period.
