Police have launched an investigation into the potentially life-threatening stabbing of an 18-year-old man.

A police spokesman said that officers and other first responders were called to a Hamilton Parish residence at about 5.35pm yesterday after reports that a young man had been injured during an altercation with another male.

Upon arrival, EMTs immediately began treatment on the man, who was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered a stab wound.

He was subsequently taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment for injuries that are considered life-threatening.

A male suspect, aged 17, is in custody.
