All public primary schools enjoy Horizons programme
Students from every public primary school on the island participated in a variety of field trips as part of Bermuda Education Network’s Horizons programme.
More than 2,500 students participated in 180 trips with the benefit of free transportation and classroom resources for teachers.
A spokeswoman for BEN said: “BEN’s Horizons programme has had a transformative impact since 2015, providing young students with unique learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
“We look forward to another year inspiring the next generation of learners and supporting public schoolteachers with valuable opportunities and resources.”
The Horizons programme is funded by donations from Kattegat Limited, The Peter Cundill Foundation, Ascot Group, Sompo, Validus, Aspen Bermuda Limited, Hannover Re (Bermuda), Fidelity International, Conyers, Edmund Gibbons and Wilton Reinsurance Limited, each of whose longstanding support has enabled BEN to enrich and extend the curriculum for public primary students and support teachers for several years.
BEN announced that Oakley Capital Investment will further enhance the programme with support for capacity building and curriculum development.
This year’s partner organisations were Agra Living Institute, Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation, the Bermuda Zoological Society, The St George’s Historical Society, and the St David’s Historical Society.
BEN thanked them for their role in providing “exciting lessons that brought history and science to life for young learners”.
BEN also thanked Latoya Pearman for managing and coordinating the Horizons programme with “dedication and excellence” for the past two years.
The spokeswoman said of Ms Pearman: “While she is stepping down from her current role, we are delighted to announce that she has accepted a position on our board of directors, where she will continue to contribute her expertise and passion for public education.”
